The US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) has announced a proposed increase in application fees. The proposed fee rule would increase the average application and petition fees by approximately 10 percent.
Some fees, like the I-130 Petition for Alien Relative that is used in most family immigration cases, will increase by a greater amount- from $355 to $420.
The USCIS is also proposing a new fee that will be charged for all immigrant visas- these are visas that involve processing in a U.S. consulate.
Though the public comment period and then the issuance of a final rule may take several months, if you or someone you know is contemplating filing for some immigration benefit in the near future, it may be in your best interest to move ahead before the fee increases go into effect.
